CREEC Harbor Co. accomplished Xiamen-Zhangzhou Intercity Mass Rapid Transit Project: Sub-sea Tunnel Drilling Works in Xiamen Bay Stage 1

    Date: October 18, 2016

Recently, CREEC Harbor Co. has successfully accomplished Xiamen-Zhangzhou Intercity Mass Rapid Transit Project: Sub-sea Tunnel Drilling Works in Xiamen Bay Stage 1.

After passing through the downtown of Zhangzhou, Xiamen-Zhangzhou Intercity Mass Rapid Transit stretches 90.8km from Jingcheng Town, Nanjing County of Zhangzhou in the north to Longhai, Haicheng, Fugong, Houshi Harbor and finally Xiamen in the south. On the basis of the planned route, the sub-sea tunnel enters into the sea in Nanpaotai and arrives in Xiamen Island. The sub-sea tunnel will land since Baicheng Tunnel and it will connect with Xiamen Railway Station by going through Wanshi Mountain.

After taking the task, CREEC Harbor Co. started to set up a project team and authorize the director of Survey Department MR FU JUNCAI as the project team leader. Then survey works began. According to the project, the tunnel will go through Xiamen Bay, where a large sum of shipping routes join. Besides, the water conditions of Xiamen Bay are unpredictable, causing difficult drilling works and tighter duration. The first bunch of drilling works included 8 drills, set along the route of the tunnel; few were set among or near the channels of Xiamen Bay. The design depth was between 55 and 80m. We have invited some professionals to join the discussion on the safety of shipping, ensuing that the on-the-spot survey works did not make an impact on the shipping. The survey plan was carried on as long as it has been reviewed and approved by relevant governing departments.

During the survey works were launching, we paid much attention to the progress as we have organized a series of site inspections so that we could improve the plan.

The length of the survey route totaled 4300m, where complicated water conditions influenced the drilling works by the variation of the tides, streams, wind direction and wave. In view of the shipping in Xiamen Bay, the survey team seized the time to accomplish the works on time. From 12 of May to 1 of August, the aggregate drilling works totaled 500.6m of drilling depth, sampling 189 sections of soil samples and 7 water samples. In a word, we have successfully accomplished standard penetration test, vane test, pumping test, etc.
