Palua Port Reconstruction Project in Venezuela Complete
Date: May 26, 2015
Recently, The owner of Palua Port of Venezuela signed the project completion with the project designer CREEC and the project construction contractor China Railway Shiju, which means that Palua Port Reconstruction Project in Venezuela was complete. This is the first engineering project that China Railway has accomplished in South America as well as a good beginning for China Railway’s broadening its market.
FMO, a Venezuelan state-owned mining enterprise, depends strongly on Palua Port for iron shipping . But the output capacity of Palua Port was only 3,500,000 tons per annum because the devices of the port was aging. Before the project, the storage of cargo the stockyard did not meet cargo’s growing demand. Then the reconstruction started in 2012. The reconstruction mainly consisted of the renewal of the devices and the dilatation of the port stockyard. After the project, the handling capacity of the port increases to 7,200,000 tons per annum.
During the project, the worst situation we faced was that the regular operation of the port suspended only in a short duration. Thus, the project spared us no time on the schedule. In our efforts, we accomplished the project of high quality.
